Ethical Leadership in Latin America

At DOOIT, ethical leadership is at the core of our mission to empower executives across Latin America and worldwide. Through our Leadership Communication and Influence Programs, leaders develop the skills for ethical decision-making, communication, and positive influence—essential for business transformation, multicultural teams, and sustainable growth.

Our Leadership Inside-Out series was created to spotlight leaders who navigate complex environments with clarity, values, and resilience, embodying the good leadership characteristics that make a lasting impact in organizations and communities.

Today, we share the full interview with Arturo Rosabal, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica and Managing Director at Eagle Soluciones Eléctricas. His leadership journey is defined by ethical principles, care, perseverance, and responsibility—values that build lasting business value and social impact.

What learning experience marked a turning point in your career?

Navigating my company through the pandemic and its aftermath was the defining challenge of my career. That period demanded unprecedented decisions no business school teaches, requiring us to keep production going while protecting the safety of every team member. We supported clients facing severe credit difficulties and, as global supply chain disruptions hit, adapted quickly to unexpected inventory and logistics realities. Those months tested the business in every possible way, yet we emerged not just intact but stronger—more resilient and elevated in our market presence.

How do you build leadership resilience in crisis?

“Resilience emerges when leaders adapt quickly and act both boldly and with compassion, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of teams while driving the business forward.”

What has been your greatest professional contribution so far?

Taking the helm of our family business, I have focused on implementing true corporate governance and aligning our policies to internationally recognized standards. This transformation empowered the company to scale up substantially while creating a solid foundation for sustainable future growth. Today, our enterprise continues to gain value and market presence, built on orderly growth and best practices.

Why is ethical leadership and governance foundational for growth?

“Corporate governance and ethical leadership lay the groundwork for sustainable expansion and lasting value, especially in family-owned companies.”

What do you do when the data points one way, and your strategic intuition points another?

I see data as indispensable for decision-making, but it’s only part of the picture: numbers reflect where we’ve been, not necessarily where we’re going. Strategy requires looking forward—spotting risks, opportunities, and contextual shifts the data alone can’t reveal. My approach combines rigorous analysis with a nuanced, stakeholder-aware perspective to ensure decisions serve the business’s long-term interests.

How should leaders balance data and intuition?

“Successful leaders blend data-driven rigor with strategic intuition, reading beyond the numbers to sense future risks and opportunities.”

What does positive influence mean to you?

To me, influence is about raising the bar—not only benefiting personally, but elevating everyone impacted by your actions. Leadership, at its best, generates happiness and progress for all who are involved in the process.

What is positive influence in leadership?

“True influence means lifting the whole team—building happiness and shared progress, not just personal achievement.”

What personal value always guides you, even in adversity?

A mentor once urged me to define a life motto, and since then, three values have guided me no matter the adversity: care, perseverance, and responsibility. These are the principles that shape the way I aim to make a difference, regardless of the circumstances.

Why are care, perseverance, and responsibility essential leadership values?

“Care, perseverance, and responsibility are the pillars that shape high-impact, resilient leadership—especially under pressure.”

How do you imagine global leadership in the years ahead?

Globally, leadership is in flux—we’re seeing popularity gained by figures who capitalize on division and resentment. But I believe this trend is temporary. As history shows, it’s the leaders who inspire positive change through conviction and collaborative action who ultimately advance society and are remembered for the right reasons.

What is the future of global ethical leadership?

“The leaders who unite people for positive change—not division—will be those who drive progress and are remembered for their legacy.”
